History
I started running in january of 2004 to get in shape. I had gained too much weight and felt terrible. I was able to run my first 5K 3 months later. I have continued to push for greater goals and have run 3 marathons and I am training for a 4th now.
Marathons Completed
Steamboat Marathon 2005 Boulder Backroads 2005 - Las Vegas Marathon 2005

Hot! That is the only word that describes running lately. Temperatures during the day have been record setting at 106 degrees. Even getting up early and running by 7am seems to be intolerable. Running lately has been work. I have been feeling weak, heavy, dead legged. Why? I have been asking the same question. How do you find out the cause. That is why runners should keep a training dairy. Let me explain.
A training diary or runner's log is a record of each run - information should include diet, mileage, pace, weather and generally how you are feeling. When your running changes, you don't feel right, the place to look is your training diary. What has changed? What is different? After looking at the past you can usually find an answer to your problem. Mine? Well nothing has changed except the weather. Increasing heat and humidity and sweating without proper replacement can cause mild dehydration. Dehydration can be the cause of lack of energy and fatigue.
The answer will be drinking more and rehydrating myself. Lately my runs have been pushing hard and sweating even harder. I don't feel that I have been drinking enough to keep up with my sweating. So I guess I'll start hitting the bottle. Of water of course. Let's hope the heat let's up soon before we all start saying " Help ME, I'm Melting"
